The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired Kyle Masters from the Anaheim Ducks in a player rights swap, as announced by Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes sent forward Noah Philp to the Ducks in exchange for the 23-year-old defenseman.
The trade is the second between the two teams in as many days, following a trade for John Carlson.
Kyle Masters is a prospect who has yet to make his NHL debut, but has played in the ECHL and AHL.
He appeared in 10 games for the Wichita Thunder of the ECHL this season, registering three assists.
The Hurricanes will now look to sign Masters, who was originally selected by the Minnesota Wild in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
As of June 15, the Carolina Hurricanes were on a W1 streak, having won 0-3 at the Vegas Golden Knights.
The team is currently standing 1st in the Eastern Conference with a 53-22 record.
And with free agency less than 24 hours away, the NHL landscape is buzzing with player transactions.
But the Hurricanes are focused on their new acquisition, who has played 69 career ECHL games with Iowa and Wichita, totaling 35 points.
So what can fans expect from Masters?
He has also played 35 American Hockey League games for Iowa, scoring one goal and adding five assists.
The 6’0”, 177-pound defenseman is a promising young player who could make his NHL debut soon.
